High-Strength ER5356 Aluminum MIG Wire for Structural, Marine and Fabrication Work

Eagle ER5356 is a premium aluminum-magnesium MIG welding wire designed for applications where higher strength, toughness and corrosion resistance are important.

Containing approximately 5% magnesium, ER5356 is commonly used for welding 5XXX-series aluminum alloys and is also a strong choice for many 6XXX-series applications, including 6061. It offers excellent corrosion resistance in salt-water environments and produces a weld deposit with good strength and ductility.

ER5356 is especially well suited for marine fabrication, structural aluminum, trailers, transportation equipment, tanks and general heavy aluminum fabrication.

Available in .030", .035" and .045" diameters in 1 lb and 16 lb spools.

Especially well suited where strength, ductility, corrosion resistance and salt-water performance are important.

Clean the weld area thoroughly before welding.
Remove all oil, grease, lubricants, coatings, dirt and oxide from the aluminum surface.

Use a dedicated stainless steel wire brush for oxide removal and keep the brush reserved for aluminum only to avoid contamination.

Use 100% Argon shielding gas for typical MIG applications.
Operate on DC Reverse [+] / DCEP polarity.

Use proper aluminum wire-feeding equipment, including a suitable liner, drive-roll setup, spool gun or push-pull system where required.

Adjust voltage, amperage and travel speed according to material thickness, joint design and welding position.

Eagle ER5356 is an aluminum-magnesium filler wire containing approximately 5% magnesium.

Its magnesium content provides higher mechanical strength than many general-purpose aluminum filler wires while maintaining excellent ductility and corrosion resistance.

ER5356 is particularly well known for its performance in marine and salt-water environments.

The weld deposit also provides a white colour after anodizing, which can make ER5356 preferable where the welded component will be anodized after fabrication.

Choose Eagle ER4043 when you want excellent fluidity, easier puddle control and reduced crack sensitivity, especially for general fabrication and cast aluminum applications.
