ER316L MIG Wire for 316/316L Stainless and Corrosion-Resistant Applications

Eagle ER316L is a premium low-carbon stainless steel MIG wire designed for welding 316, 316L and similar molybdenum-bearing stainless steels.

The molybdenum addition improves resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, making ER316L especially well suited for piping, petrochemical equipment, marine fabrication, food-processing equipment and other stainless applications exposed to aggressive service conditions.

Low Carbon. Molybdenum Alloyed. Built for Corrosion Resistance.

Eagle ER316L MIG Wire is recommended for:

316 stainless steel
316L stainless steel
Stainless piping
Petrochemical equipment
Chemical-processing equipment
Marine fabrication
Food-processing equipment
Tanks and vessels
Cladding
Industrial maintenance
Corrosion-resistant stainless repair
General stainless fabrication

Especially well suited where improved resistance to pitting and corrosive environments is important.

Clean the weld area thoroughly before welding.

Remove oil, grease, dirt, coatings and other surface contamination.

Use a dedicated stainless steel wire brush where mechanical cleaning is required to help prevent carbon-steel contamination.

Operate on DC Reverse [+] / DCEP polarity.

Use an appropriate stainless MIG shielding gas. Common manufacturer recommendations for ER316L include:
Argon + 0.5–5% CO₂
Argon + 0.5–3% O₂

Adjust voltage, wire-feed speed, travel speed and gas flow according to material thickness, joint design and wire diameter.

Eagle ER316L is a low-carbon, molybdenum-bearing austenitic stainless steel solid MIG wire designed for welding corrosion-resistant stainless steels.

Typical ER316L chemistry is approximately 18–20% chromium, 11–14% nickel and 2–3% molybdenum. The molybdenum improves resistance to localized corrosion, while the low carbon content helps reduce intergranular corrosion.

Why Eagle ER316L MIG Wire?

Improved corrosion resistance — molybdenum helps improve resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion.

Designed for 316/316L stainless — ideal for welding similar molybdenum-bearing stainless steels.

Low-carbon filler — helps reduce carbide precipitation and support corrosion resistance.

Strong mechanical properties — typical published ER316L wire data is around 86–88 ksi tensile strength with approximately 36–39% elongation.

Built for demanding environments — especially useful for pipework, petrochemical, marine and process-industry fabrication.

ER316L, ER308L or ER309L MIG?

Choose ER316L for 316/316L stainless and applications requiring improved pitting and corrosion resistance.
Choose ER308L for 304/304L and similar stainless-to-stainless welding.

Choose ER309L when joining stainless steel to carbon steel or other dissimilar steels.

In simple terms:
ER316L = higher corrosion resistance
ER308L = standard stainless-to-stainless
ER309L = stainless-to-carbon steel / dissimilar metals
