Low-Carbon ER308L MIG Wire for 304 and Similar Stainless Steels

Eagle ER308L is a premium low-carbon stainless steel MIG wire designed for welding 304, 304L, 308 and similar austenitic stainless steels.

Its low carbon content helps reduce intergranular carbide precipitation, helping preserve corrosion resistance in the weld area. ER308L is a dependable choice for stainless fabrication, piping, tanks, food-processing equipment and general maintenance. Comparable ER308L wire is classified to AWS A5.9 ER308L.

Low Carbon. Clean Welds. Reliable Stainless MIG Performance.

Eagle ER308L MIG Wire is recommended for:

304 stainless steel
304L stainless steel
308 stainless steel
Stainless steel fabrication
Tanks and vessels
Stainless piping
Food-processing equipment
Petrochemical equipment
Maintenance welding
General stainless repair
Production MIG welding

Designed for welding common 18Cr-8Ni austenitic stainless steels where corrosion resistance and dependable mechanical properties are important.

Clean the weld area thoroughly before welding.

Remove oil, grease, dirt, coatings and other surface contaminants.

Use a dedicated stainless steel wire brush where mechanical cleaning is required to help prevent carbon-steel contamination.

Use an appropriate stainless MIG shielding gas. Common manufacturer recommendations for ER308L include argon-based mixed gases with small additions of CO₂ or O₂.

Operate on DC Reverse [+] / DCEP polarity.

Adjust voltage, wire-feed speed, travel speed and gas flow according to material thickness, joint design, position and wire diameter.

Eagle ER308L is a low-carbon austenitic stainless steel solid MIG wire designed primarily for welding 304, 304L, 308 and similar stainless steels.

Its low carbon content helps reduce the tendency for carbide precipitation and improves resistance to intergranular corrosion. Typical ER308L chemistry is approximately 19.5–22% chromium and 9–11% nickel.

Why Eagle ER308L MIG Wire?

Low-carbon stainless filler — helps maintain corrosion resistance in welded stainless steel.

Excellent for 304/304L — a standard choice for common stainless fabrication.

Strong mechanical properties — typical published ER308L wire data is around 83–85 ksi tensile strength, with excellent ductility.

Clean weld appearance — suited for fabrication where bead quality and consistency matter.

Versatile stainless filler — useful for tanks, piping, food equipment, petrochemical work and general repair.

ER308L, ER309L or ER316L MIG?

Choose ER308L for 304/304L and similar stainless-to-stainless welding.

Choose ER309L when joining stainless steel to carbon steel or other dissimilar steels.

Choose ER316L for 316/316L stainless and applications requiring improved pitting and corrosion resistance.

In simple terms:
ER308L = standard stainless-to-stainless MIG wire
ER309L = stainless-to-carbon steel / dissimilar metals
ER316L = higher corrosion resistance
