High-Strength Repair Electrode for Hard-to-Weld Steels

Eagle 878 is a premium high-strength repair electrode designed for joining and rebuilding difficult-to-weld steels, including manganese components, wear plate, alloy steels and heavily stressed machinery parts.

Its moisture-resistant coating helps produce high-strength, porosity-resistant welds, while the self-removing slag and smooth arc characteristics make it easy to use in all positions. With approximately 105,000 psi tensile strength and 32% elongation, Eagle 878 provides an excellent combination of strength and ductility for demanding repair applications.

Ideal for heavy equipment, mining, construction and industrial repair, Eagle 878 is well suited for frog points, machinery parts, hot dies, manganese bucket lips, bucket teeth, shaft build-up, pipeline ditcher segments and joining wear plate to carbon steel.

High Strength. High Ductility. Built for Difficult Repairs.

Clean the weld area thoroughly and remove fatigued or damaged metal before welding. Where required, groove out cracks and defects before repair; Eagle 188 airless gouging electrodes are an excellent option for weld preparation.

Maintain a short arc length and use stringer beads for best control and dependable mechanical properties.

Eagle 878 is a high-strength repair electrode with a moisture-resistant coating designed to produce sound, porosity-resistant weld deposits.

Its combination of approximately 105,000 psi tensile strength and 32% elongation provides both high strength and excellent ductility, making it especially valuable for difficult repair applications where cracking is a concern. The slag is self-removing, and the electrode can be welded in all positions.

Why Eagle 878?

High-strength repair performance — approximately 105,000 psi tensile strength for demanding industrial repairs.

Excellent ductility — approximately 32% elongation helps the weld tolerate impact, vibration and movement.

Built for difficult steels — ideal for manganese, wear plate, alloy steels and hard-to-weld components.

Moisture-resistant coating — helps produce consistent, porosity-resistant weld deposits.

878 or 807?

Choose Eagle 878 when you want a high-strength, highly ductile repair electrode for hard-to-weld steels, especially when porosity resistance and all-position capability are important.

Choose Eagle 807 when you need a tough cushion layer beneath hardfacing or a repair alloy specifically focused on manganese and dissimilar alloy-steel joining.

In simple terms:
878 = high-strength repair for difficult steels
807 = tough repair + hardfacing cushion layer
