High-Strength Low-Heat Electrode for Dissimilar and Difficult-to-Weld Steels

Eagle 866 Ultra Chrome is a premium high-strength repair electrode designed for joining dissimilar steels and rebuilding difficult-to-weld components, including low-alloy, high-alloy, tool and carbon steels.

Its ferritic-austenitic deposit provides an excellent combination of strength, ductility and machinability, while its low-heat welding characteristics help reduce distortion and spatter. With approximately 120,000 psi tensile strength and 30–35% elongation, Eagle 866 is well suited for demanding repair and maintenance applications.

Ideal for industrial maintenance, heavy equipment and tooling repair, Eagle 866 can be used on shafts, forging dies, hot shearing blades, dies, punches, conveyor chains and debarker knives.

High Strength. Low Heat. Built for Difficult Steels.

Eagle 866 is recommended for:

Joining dissimilar steels
Low-alloy steels
High-alloy steels
Tool steels
Carbon steels
Shaft rebuilding
Forging dies
Hot shearing blades
Dies and punches
Conveyor chains
Debarker knives
Difficult industrial repair work

Especially useful where strength, ductility, machinability and low heat input are important.

AC or DC Reverse [+] Polarity

Clean the weld area thoroughly and remove rust, scale, grease and contaminants.

For carbon steels, preheat to approximately 400°F where appropriate. Maintain a short arc and use stringer beads to help prevent overheating. Allow the weld deposit to cool before removing slag.

Eagle 866 Ultra Chrome is a ferritic-austenitic repair electrode with excellent control in all positions.

The weld metal and transition zones are fully machinable, while excellent striking and restriking characteristics make it easy to use for repair work. Its low-heat characteristics help produce smooth, low-spatter weld deposits in all positions.

Why Eagle 866 Ultra Chrome?

Excellent for dissimilar steels — designed for joining combinations of low-alloy, high-alloy, tool and carbon steels.

High-strength deposit — approximately 120,000 psi tensile strength for demanding repair applications.

High ductility — approximately 30–35% elongation helps resist cracking under impact, vibration and movement.

Machinable weld metal — useful for shafts, dies and other components that may require finishing after repair.

Low heat input — helps reduce distortion and overheating on sensitive components.

866 or 865?

Choose Eagle 865 when the job involves broken bolt removal, stud pulling, low-heat build-up or difficult repair work.

Choose Eagle 866 Ultra Chrome when the main requirement is joining dissimilar steels with a high-strength, highly ductile and machinable weld deposit.

In simple terms:
865 = stud pulling + difficult low-heat repair
866 = premium dissimilar-steel joining + machinability
