Commercially Pure Nickel MIG Wire for Machinable Cast Iron Repair

Eagle 194 MIG is a commercially pure nickel welding wire designed for repairing cast iron where a soft, fully machinable weld deposit is required.

It is especially well suited for thin cast iron sections, applications where high dilution can occur, and repairs where minimum heat input is important. Eagle 194 MIG can also be used for build-up on large castings and for joining thin cast iron to steel.

The soft nickel deposit can be machined, drilled, tapped and filed, making it a strong choice for precision cast-iron repair.

Pure Nickel. Low Heat. Fully Machinable.

Eagle 194 MIG Specification Sheet

Eagle 194 MIG is recommended for:

Thin cast iron sections
Cast iron repair
Build-up on large castings
Joining thin cast iron to steel
Repairs where minimum heat input is important
Repairs requiring machining after welding
Maintenance and industrial repair
Overlay on lower-grade steels for corrosion protection

It can also be used as an overlay where protection from wet or dry corrosive material is required.

Remove defects and surface contaminants thoroughly.
Prepare a U-type groove where required to help reduce root-pass cracking.

Preheat castings to approximately 500°F–800°F and maintain temperature while welding.

For build-up, use approximately a 1/4" arc length with a slow travel speed.

Use short beads and move frequently around the repair area to avoid excessive heat build-up in one location.

Peening is recommended. Allow the cast iron to cool slowly for best results.

Eagle 194 MIG is a commercially pure nickel, all-position wire designed to produce soft, porosity-free cast iron weld deposits.

Its approximately 150–160 BH hardness allows the finished weld to be machined, drilled, tapped and filed.

Why Eagle 194 MIG?

Fully machinable deposit — ideal where the finished repair needs machining.

Commercially pure nickel — provides a soft, workable cast-iron weld deposit.

Low-heat repair capability — especially useful on thin castings and applications where heat input needs to be controlled.

Excellent bonding — useful for joining thin cast iron to steel where lower tensile strength is acceptable.

Build-up capability — well suited for restoring large castings.

194 MIG or 194 Stick?

Choose Eagle 194 MIG when you want the productivity and continuous feeding of a MIG process with a soft, commercially pure nickel deposit.

Choose Eagle 194 Stick when you want a portable stick-electrode option for fully machinable cast-iron repair.
In simple terms:

194 MIG = continuous-wire machinable cast iron repair
194 Stick = portable machinable cast iron repair
