Non-Machinable Electrode for Dirty, Oil-Soaked and Difficult Cast Iron

Eagle 191 is a specialty cast iron welding electrode designed for repairing dirty, contaminated and difficult-to-weld castings.

It is especially useful on cast iron that has absorbed oil, grease or other contaminants, where conventional nickel cast-iron electrodes may struggle to produce a dependable repair.

Eagle 191 is also well suited as a buttering layer before applying a machinable cast-iron electrode, helping stabilize difficult base material before the final weld layer is deposited.

Dirty Cast Iron. Difficult Repairs. Eagle 191 Gets It Done.

Eagle 191 is recommended for:

Dirty cast iron
Oil-soaked castings
Grease-contaminated cast iron
Burned castings
Difficult cast-iron repairs
Machinery repair
Maintenance welding
Problem castings

Buttering layers before machinable cast-iron electrodes
Designed for castings where contamination makes repair with conventional nickel electrodes difficult.

Use AC or DC Reverse [+] Polarity.

Prepare and clean the weld area thoroughly. Groove out cracks and damaged material as required. Eagle 188 airless gouging electrodes may be used for weld preparation.

Use the lowest effective amperage while maintaining a short-to-medium arc length.

Make short weld deposits approximately 1"–1-1/2" long using a skip-weld technique to reduce heat input.

Peen the weld while hot to help reduce internal stresses, and allow the casting to cool slowly.

Eagle 191 is an economical, all-position electrode designed specifically for difficult cast-iron repair.

Its deposit provides a close colour match to cast iron and is intentionally hard and non-machinable, making it especially useful where contaminated or damaged castings need a strong repair rather than a machinable finish.

Why Eagle 191?

Designed for dirty cast iron — useful on castings saturated with oil, grease or other contaminants.

Excellent problem-casting electrode — a practical choice when nickel cast-iron electrodes have difficulty.

Useful as a buttering layer — can be applied before a machinable cast-iron electrode.

Close colour match — helps the finished repair blend with the surrounding casting.

191, 180 or 193?

Choose Eagle 191 when the casting is dirty, oil-soaked, burned or highly contaminated, and machinability is not the priority.

Choose Eagle 180 (Ni55) when you want a machinable cast-iron repair electrode with good strength and versatility.

Choose Eagle 193 (Ni99) when you want a high-nickel machinable deposit, especially for cast-iron repair where maximum machinability is important.

In simple terms:
191 = dirty/problem cast iron, non-machinable
180 Ni55 = strong, machinable general cast-iron repair
193 Ni99 = premium machinability
