Machinable Ni55 TIG Rod for Cast Iron Repair and Cast Iron-to-Steel Joining

Eagle 180 TIG is a specialty nickel-iron TIG filler rod designed for repairing gray, ductile and nodular cast iron.

Like the Eagle 180 stick electrode, it is intended for strong, machinable cast-iron repairs on components such as engine blocks, housings, sprockets, transmission housings, gear teeth and machine bases. Eagle 180 is also used for joining cast iron to steel where required.

The TIG process gives the welder excellent control over heat input and filler placement, making Eagle 180 TIG a strong choice for precision repair work and smaller cast-iron components.

Machinable. Controlled. Built for Cast Iron Repair.

Eagle 180 TIG is recommended for:

Gray cast iron
Ductile cast iron
Nodular cast iron
Engine blocks
Cast iron housings
Sprockets
Transmission housings
Gear teeth
Machine bases
Cast iron build-up
Cast iron-to-steel joining
Precision cast-iron repair
Maintenance and machine-shop repair

Designed for cast-iron applications where strength, machinability and controlled heat input are important. The Eagle 180 family is specifically published for these cast-iron repair and joining applications.

Prepare and clean the weld area thoroughly.

Remove cracks, fatigued metal, oil, grease and contamination before welding. Groove damaged areas where necessary.

Use a dedicated stainless steel brush or clean grinding tools to avoid introducing additional contamination.

For TIG / GTAW, use an appropriate inert shielding gas, typically 100% Argon.

Maintain a short arc and use the lowest effective heat input practical for the repair.

Make short weld deposits where possible and move around the repair area to help minimize localized heat build-up.

Peening while warm can help reduce residual stress. Allow the casting to cool slowly after welding.

Eagle 180 TIG is the TIG filler version of Eagle’s proven Ni55 cast iron repair alloy.

The Eagle 180 alloy is designed to produce a machinable, porosity-resistant deposit on gray, ductile and nodular cast iron. The stick version is published at approximately 200 BH hardness, giving the family a good balance between strength and post-weld machinability.

Why Eagle 180 TIG?

Machinable cast-iron deposit — suitable where the finished repair may need drilling, tapping, filing or machining.

Excellent heat control — TIG allows precise control on smaller or sensitive castings.

Versatile cast-iron capability — suitable for gray, ductile and nodular cast iron.

Cast iron-to-steel joining — useful for repair and fabrication applications involving dissimilar ferrous materials.

Ideal for precision work — particularly useful where a stick electrode may put in more heat or deposit than desired.

180 TIG or 180 Stick?

Choose Eagle 180 TIG when you want precise heat control, clean filler placement and TIG-level control on cast-iron repairs.

Choose Eagle 180 Stick when you want a portable, fast and versatile SMAW option for larger or field repairs.

In simple terms:
180 TIG = precision machinable cast-iron repair
180 Stick = portable machinable cast-iron repair
